New York, NY (February 6, 2023) – For more than 60 years Gracie Square Hospital, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, has provided compassionate, high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health care. This year, the hospital was honored with a new prestigious designation — Magnet®Recognition for their excellence in nursing. Gracie Square is the 3rd independent psychiatric hospital to ever receive this honor. The American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet® Recognition Program distinguishes health care organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence. This credential is the highest national honor for professional nursing practice.

In order to qualify for Magnet® Recognition, Gracie Square Hospital was required to meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence by demonstrating superiority in the Magnet® Recognition components deemed essential to delivering superior patient care. These include the quality of nursing leadership and coordination and collaboration across specialties, as well as processes for measuring and improving the quality and delivery of care. This recognition is a testament to Gracie Square’s continued dedication to provide high-quality nursing for their patients.

“This recognition serves as an affirmation of how hard our nurses work in order to provide high quality, compassionate, and safe patient care” said Timothy P. McGarvey MSN, LMSW, RN, NEA-BC, Executive Director & Chief Nursing Officer at Gracie Square Hospital. “I am so proud of our dedicated team members, who always strive for excellence and are committed to providing expert care to our community.”

The ANCC Magnet® Recognition Program was launched in 1990 to identify and promote excellence in nursing by using evidence-based research and best practices. Today, the program is considered the gold standard of nursing excellence. Research demonstrates that Magnet® Recognition provides specific benefits to health care organizations and their communities, including:
